Coming in August – Ay Caramba! The Picnic with the Pops Commission has secured the three-time Grammy-nominated Cuban music group Tiempo Libre, one of the hottest Latin bands today! HAVANA NIGHTS, sponsored by UBS Financial Services, will be presented under the direction of Scott Terrell, with our guest artists performing with the Lexington Philharmonic Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20 at 8:30 p.m.

The Cuban “SON”
Most music historians agree that the “Cuban SON” is the backbone for contemporary salsa and was probably the most popular dance music genre to emerge from Cuba during the early 20th century. The couple maintains a very upright frame, with quick flirtatious side to side movements of the shoulders, torso and hips accenting the underlying six count rhythm of the feet.
